"I can use this room for two more weeks," Santi Condorelli joked as he entered the conference room in Verona Town Hall.
Less than 14 days later, his term would be up. But at that point - June 18 to be exact - his name is on the door with the title "council member" above it.
Condorelli lost his reelection bid in May and doesn't foresee another run anytime soon. He has enjoyed his service and has no regrets of his two decades on and off the governing body. More
A group of parents are asking the directors of The Children's House - a Montessori-influenced preschool in Verona - to resign over changes to the staff and curriculum. "The school needs a change in leadership," a petition to school officials states in all capital letters. "Too many parents have lost confidence in the board and the director and no longer support the decisions and actions implemented by them." More.
Essex County officials on Wednesday announced phase two of the demolition of the Old Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove. Doing so brings the county one step closer to having its new 90.2-acre passive recreation park. County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo told the Times that 40 percent of the property's buildings would be knocked down by year's end, and that the rest would be demolished in 2010. See the video.
