Joint Friday night Shabbat service
This Friday evening, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m., four area synagogues and groups will hold a joint Friday night Shabbat service at Congregation Beth Ahm. B’nai Keshet, Congregation Shomrei Emunah and the Montclair Jewish Workshop will join forces for the service, which will be followed by a potluck dairy dinner. Welcome Shabbat with prayer and song
On Friday, Nov. 14 there will be a welcome Shabbat with prayer and song at the spirited 8 p.m. service led by Rabbi Steven Kushner and Cantor Meredith Greenberg. Shabbat Saturday morning service on Nov. 15 begins at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. There will also be an alternative service in the chapel called the "Casual Minyan" at 10 a.m. that is a wonderfully informal, welcoming and participatory service with a lively discussion around the themes in this week's Torah portion. Dress is casual and the community is invited to attend.

Used Book Sale
The community is invited to Temple Ner Tamid's first ever Used Book Sale on Sunday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Practically new Adult and children's books, CD's and DVD’s will be on sale.

Discussions about the Book of Genesis
On Nov. 17 and 24, at 7:30 p.m., Congregation Beth Ahm’s Rabbi Aaron Kriegel and Rabbi Josh Kohl from the group JPrisms will be holding seminars and discussions about the Book of Genesis. These evenings are freewheeling, with the audience joining in lively and spirited discussions about the topic at hand. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Discussions about the Chassiduth
On Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. and for most Wednesday nights until the end of December, Rabbi Ephraim Mintz, director of the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute, will lead discussions about the Chassiduth, a movement within Judaism founded by Rabbi Yisrael Ba'al Shem Tov, the purpose of which is to awaken the Jewish People to its own self through the inner dimension of the Torah. Rabbi Mintz has been leading these groups for years at Congregation Beth Ahm and has developed quite a large following. Admission is free. 

Thanksgiving service
Thanksgiving service: Are you looking for a place to express your thankfulness? Join the group at the First Congregational Church of Verona as the group gathers to ask for blessings at our traditional Thanksgiving Festival Service on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. Come and enjoy wonderful music and the best coffee hour this side of Plymouth Rock.

Carol sing and advent study on Christmas carols
The United Presbyterian Church of Cedar Grove will offer a carol sing and three week study of several Christmas carols and how they were influenced by the Scriptures. All are invited on Sundays, Dec. 7, 14, and 21 to "Scripture in the Christmas Carols.” Under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Paul O. Boger, Sr., Pastor, and Kathleen Gaffney, Organist/Choir Director, the study and sing will explore the biblical references found in:  Good Christian Friends, Rejoice!; Hark! The Herald Angels Sing; It Came upon the Midnight Clear; Joy to the World; O little Town of Bethlehem; and Once in Royal David's City.
 Each session begins with a light luncheon at 11:30 a.m. followed by the study and carol sing. Those wishing to attend are invited to register in one of two ways: call the church office and leave your name at 973-239-8520 or via e-mail at upccg@verizon.net. The church is located at 155 Commerce Road off of Pompton Road.

Registration for Children’s Learning Center
Registration is still open for the temple’s Children’s Learning Center. The Center boasts a low student-teacher ratio and prepares the youth who attend to pray in any synagogue in the world.
