Officers threatened

Answering a disturbance call on Grove Avenue Wednesday night, Verona police were threatened at the door by a man wielding two large kitchen knives, according to a statement released today.

While police safely removed his wife from the house, the homeowner locked himself inside, according to Verona police. After several hours, a New Jersey State Police's TEAMS unit extricated the man from the dwelling, police said.

Aaron Auerbach, 51, was taken into custody and transported to the Verona Police Department, where aggravated assault and weapons charges are pending, according to the statement.
