Joan (Spellmeyer) Valestin
Joan (Spellmeyer) Valestin of Cedar Grove, died Oct. 7.  She was 87.
Born and raised in Elizabeth, she also lived in Clifton, Cranford and Verona before moving to Cedar Grove 20 years ago. She was a longtime member of the Cedar Grove Seniors. She had a passion for traveling and visited many countries.  
She is survived by her children Jeffrey Valestin and Gayle and David Meyer, and two grandchildren Courtney Valestin and Gregory Meyer.
Visiting hours were Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to noon at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave. Funeral service began at noon. Interment was at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made in her memory to the St. Barnabas Hospice 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ 07052.
Edith (Karlson) Anderson
Edith (Karlson) Anderson, of Cedar Grove, died Oct. 30. She was 98.
Funeral services and visitation were held Monday at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral, 486 Pompton Ave. (Rt. 23) Cedar Grove, NJ 07009.
Entombment was at Mount Hebron Mausoleum in Upper Montclair.
Born in Sillhovda-Blkinge, Sweden, Anderson first settled in Montclair, and lived in Cedar Grove, Springfield, Ohio, and most recently Charlestown, W. Va. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Montclair. Anderson was also a member of the Cedar Grove Senior Citizens Club, and belonged to the Viking Kedjan Lodge No. 94 of Montclair.  
She was pre-deceased by her husband Erik O. Anderson.
Surviving are her two sons, Melvin and Lennart, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great great–grandaughter.  
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Evangelical Covenant Church, 17 Valley Road Montclair, NJ 07043.
Egbert A. Greene
Egbert A. Greene, of Verona and Montclair, died Oct. 26.
He was born and raised in Verona and attended school there. He also attended the Essex County Vocational school and pursued a course in culinary arts.
Greene was drafted in the United States Army and serviced in the European Theater. He also was employed by DeCamp/Public service bus lines. He also worked for Yearwood taxi service, where he met and married his late wife Agnes Yearwood. They lived in Pequannock and later relocated to Montclair. He also was a correction officer with the Essex County Corrections retiring after 20 years of service.
Greene was predeceased by his first wife Agnes.
He is survived by his wife, the former Maryse Larco, their daughter, Alexia, sons Alan and Steven, his sisters Miriam (Mick) Wilkinson, Eloise (Pat) Greene, Dagma (Dolly) McKay, Captonia (Cappy) Raymond, a brother Maurice (Moe) Greene, five grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at Martins Home for Services, 48 Elm St., Montclair.
